Concert Review: Conan Gray Is Self- Love At Bowery

When you think of viral sensations, it may leave you torn as to whether they are “worth” their fame. Are they fabulous or a fad? Conan Gray has gained his following through Youtube, but his Bowery Ballroom show proved that he is a natural star. While the audience fawned over his every move, he used his time to build a genuine connection with them.

Wearing a cheerleader sweater that said Mustangs, Conan Gray treated his stage like it was a high-school rally, and we had voted him Class President. The analogy is not far off considering that a lot of the crowd was Generation Z, and they saw Conan as someone that understood what it was to be lonely during summer recess, have a crush on someone that does not respond, or like tiny, glitter cowboy hats; all things he discussed and wore. His openness about his feelings, especially his down ones, made him massively appealing, and proved admirable to the young crowd because, no matter, what he kept on dancing and singing. Thus, he was a sonic emblem that you can, simultaneously, overthink and stress about who you are while also having fun.

Conan Gray – Crush Culture

It is amazing how a terrible day can turn great, and a great one can turn terrible. Life is a “yo-yo,” and Gray’s songs such as, “The King,” “Lookalike,” “Crush Culture,” and “Idle Town” talk about the daily decisions you make to feel up even when imbalanced. From “Generation Why” to “Greek God,” he shows it is a daily struggle to feel “cool,” despite being fully conscious that you are a nerd (lol!). This may seem like a silly thing to sing to, but then I ask you, “When was the last time you felt genuinely cool?” Combine this message with a voice that has a surprisingly wide, smooth vocal range, and Conan Gray soars in concert.

Conan Gray – Generation Why

The Power of Conan Gray is that he KNOWS your voice is a symbol of your personality. Thus, how you flare a note or even jump around the stage like its a bedroom is all a display of your person. Hence, people really like Conan Gray, and if he truly makes them feel as good about themselves as he did in that room believed, then he is worth all the likes.
