Concert Review: Deal Casino Deal Show Ambition At Gramercy

As a recovering perfectionist, I felt for Deal Casino at Gramercy Theatre. When your amps do not work or fail to capture the sound in your head, you could GO INSANE. Yet, they kept their cool, promoted their T-Shirts with their 3 year old dog Poomer, and showed that effort is truly a key to action.

Nearly every song winded with an intro that made you feel a storm is brewing, and they were ready to dive into the heart of the tornado. Led by Joe P, you could tell the band is clear and meticulous in how they want present and embody of their music to their crowd. They were quick to smile and as their amps went haywire, bassist Jonny was their with a joke, a story, and, eventually, maracas to make sure everything rode smooth. Their dynamic was breezy, even amongst a winding issue, and built their presence as your “party friends” that will stop at nothing to make sure the party continues.

Though their frustrations were clear, so were their good moods, which is why I admired them. As you rise as an artist, you will see mistakes and mishaps are not as rare as you like. Moreover, once you start hitting the tour circuit, you will also see a good, amiable crowd is not as common as you would like. Thus, for Deal Casino, their show was like a test, and they passed with flying colors; serving soaring, but concise tracks like, “Chocolate Cake” and “Happy People.” There songs were concisely cinematic; like a scroll of short films that made your imagination burst into 3 minute segment. The result was a show that made you want more, and made you pull for a pack of guys that gave their best to the stage in body and soul.

Strolling the stage with their instruments, and serving tracks that could easily find their way unto your Spotify playlist, Deal Casino stood out as much in talent as in ambition. I always say it; I like to see artists’ “hunger.” I like to see how much they want this incredibly common dream to be a singer, of which it is how you face fear and mistakes that proves not simply your want but also your will.
