Concert Review: Dominic Fike Goes Crazy At Bowery Ballroom
Dominic Fike is manic, sporadic, ecstatic, and freaking hilarious, which explains why his fans were so avid to have a piece of him. I really mean that. I am built like the Jolly Green Giant, and even I got lifted and thrusted forward by a Bowery Ballroom crowd pressed on being as close to him as possible. It was as if they thought Fike’s final act was to break himself into a million pieces and toss himself into the crowd. Frankly, if he could, I think he would.
The audience could not stop talking to Fike and trying to get his attention, which spiraled me into an emotional/ social crisis; I don’t like anyone as much as Fike’s fans like him. #revelations He laughingly told them “Shut the f**k up” and they were charmed. I can sincerely say that, had I done the same, no one would find me charming. Yet, part of Fike’s charisma is that he feels like a succinct ball of chaos. He burns like an organized fire; crackling passions and wildly spreading over-thoughts to the room. He can go from a rock n’ roll croon where he tears out his heart from heartbreak or jump around and spit verses as if has never felt hurt before. You didn’t know what you would get with him, which was exciting.

While I knew Dominic Fike was talented, I was floored by his live show. He was born to be an entertainer; having this blend of Elvis Presley’s mischievousness, Blink- 182’s emo style, and Hip Hop Evolution flare. He shook with glee and insanity, which made him feel like a member of DC’s Titans. Yet, his humor was perfection. He reminded me so much of my cousins and crew in the BX; having this light-hearted nature that did not mind ribbing and ripping into any ridiculousness, even if it meant calling out “White Guy #4.” While I could easily see Fike as a Desus & Mero guest star, putting it out there universe, I was simply impressed by the fact that he is a show.

There is a certain grace it takes to be an entertainer; to have a crowd follow you as if you laugh at your own madness or roar and rasp your voice for it over a 4 chord melody. Dominic Fike had that grace, and it will take him far, at least, I hope so. Frankly, he felt like the future: a blend of rock, Hip Hop, and something new… something only he could cook up.
