Concert Review: G-Flip Is A Young Adulting Guide At Baby’s All Right

From the first time I saw G-Flip things have changed: as they should. Her talking drum was no longer an epicenter of her act and she had a back-up band, which made her feel even more central to her show. Still, no one can take away that G-Flip is like the Dora of Adulting; giving a warm, even cartoonish excitement that guides you through the mishaps and misadventures of being a young adult.

In terms chemistry, G-Flip’s band LOVED her, and bounced around the stage with her as if they were a bunch of kids that got to rent their own, private Dave & Busters. This dynamic only furthered that she is singing to being the YOUNG in young adult; maturing your vivacity without losing it. Thus, in essence, G-Flip treats her instruments like arcade games; she is both playful and competitive with herself, as if, the minute she starts bashing her drum, she hears an inner voice saying, “More! More More!” To her, playing the drums is an invitation to go crazy, which only encourages her audience to give into her childlike fun. Still, in having a back-up band, she felt at ease to make her voice a focus.

Do not get it twisted! G-Flip approaches the stage and audience like a person “down with the crowd”, but her voice is a leader of it. Making her NYC debut, she was riffing and ranging notes throughout tracks like, “About You,” “Killing My Time,” “Drink Too Much,” and “Waking Up Tomorrow.” Moreover, she was both thankful and forthcoming in all the things/ people that inspired her to make it to this career highlight. Her amiability completely charmed the audience that took to her like one would their best friend/ roommate. Thus, walking into Baby’s All Right was like walking into your apartment after a bad day, and your roommate decided to have a pajama and wine party to cheer you up. You wanted to say, “Girl, I love you!”

G-Flip is all of us. She is the cool nerd that like her tech, wants to Netflix and chill, and is trying to figure out her relationships, especially with herself. Yet, the most important aspect of G-Flip’s presence is that she is a wonderful personality that is unafraid to talk/ sing about the times when she feels anything but wonderful. Such a level of vulnerability mixed with surging energy, humor, and charm reminds us that being human is a high/low journey. For More Information On G-Flip Click Here.
