Concert Review: Gilligan Moss Shows Their Future Is Grand At Terminal 5
You ever see an artist and think, “You deserve more!”. Noticing that an artist is grander then the moment is not a bad thing. It does not mean the artist was performing in the dilapidated room or that the artist was dealing with a heckling crowd. In Gilligan Moss’ case, they were opening for The Knocks at Terminal 5; crooning the eager crowd that had come early in hopes to get so close to the stage they could be confused for the speakers’ conjoined twin. Thus, having a crowd anxiously anticipating another act that is not easy or comforting, but Moss conquered the audience by showing that, this time next year, they will be the one headlining the venue.
Gilligan Moss – Ceremonial
Gilligan Moss is the musical pairing of Evan & Ben, who have an obvious bromance. As they hunch over their mix-tables and bop their bodies, as if their manufactured rhythms have to pass through them to get to the audience, you truly feel that this duo was meant to be. Their chemistry with their music is identical in that it is emotional. Sure, they do the typical wave and “Are you ready to have a good time!” as all DJ’s, but once they stand in front of their booth, their focus is as lasered as a man competing for top prize. Their “laser-focus” is, in part, why their set felt so brisk. They came on and left the stage like a cool, quick wind that was much needed after a hot day. Their introduction to a night of epic music did well to match with The Knocks exhilarating performance, which means a lot. When you can see an opener as a headliner, it means that their future is rising sooner then later.
Glass Animals – Gooey (Gilligan Moss Remix)
Never dismiss the importance of a performance. Whether you are the opener, eighth act, singing in a ballroom, or singing in a janitor’s room; a concert is a first impression. One of the most important, mental imprints you can make as a performer is that you will rise, and Gilligan Moss left everyone with the impression that a year’s worth of their tracks will leave them headlining and doing interviews about how they “started from the bottom now WE HERE!”. Yes, that is a drake lyric, and Drake should, definitely, consider Gilligan Moss for some sampling inspiration. Their beats capture an electro mysticism, with basslines that induce hypnotism through their repetitive bounce. To hear their music is to watch a sonic game of tennis. You look as the tennis-ball/rhythm courses through the court in an adrenalized beauty. Gilligan Moss are the “fun player”/you that want to dance to their songs, “Choreograph” and “Ceremonial”. as if spirit fingers could also shoot light beams. Yes, their music, legitimately, makes you feel that vibrant because there is a brightness to their instrumentals. Moss is not about going dark or moody or trying to make the club look like an “escape hatch” rather than escapism. Hence, my impression that Gilligan Moss deserves grander things because they are grand. For More Information On Gilligan Moss Click Here.
