Concert Review: Giorgio Moroder Feels Pride At LPR X

Excuse my language as I happily say, “I CANT FREAKIN DEAL WITH LPR X!” Celebrating 10 years of being one of NYC’s most sophisticated space for artists pushing artistic bounds, Le Poisson Rouge invited  THE GIORGIO MORODER to celebrate. Not only is this man the oldest, working DJ alive, but he can literally say he started a music genre: disco.

My mother is still bitter about the death of disco; claiming it was murdered by those who could not catch rhythm so, instead, they caught a tantrum. Yet, there were no tantrums on that floor, as LPR X continued its b-day series with Giorgio Moroder. Lights abound, synth-waves swinging, and Giorgio kicked ass as if age was nothing but a number. As he smiled and mixed his hits grammy-winning hits with more energy than any teen heartthrob, you forgot it was a Sunday. Yes, people club on Sundays because Life does not take weekends off. You either live or you rest and watch others do it for you, and Giorgio Moroder lives.
Donna Summer – I Feel Love (Live)

Alright, I do not like to bring up people’s ages because I was always taught it is rude, but Giorgio Moreover is 78 years old. As beers and hands swung around, yelping the lyrics of Giorgio and Donna Summer’s greatest hits, like my fave “Hot Stuff”, I looked at him and said, “The crowd may be young, but this guy is timeless.” While the room full of twenty-somethings shook their bodies as if they were the rain boots covering their stormy souls; outside may have thundered but inside Le Poisson Rouge was the electricity.

It is hard to explain how FUN LPR X’s Giorgio Moroder bash was! In a time, where it is hard to have fun because it seems like life, itself, is being threatened, LPR’s selection of Giorgio Moroder as apart of its celebratory series was smart. He represents the innovation and eccentricity that many of Le Poisson Rouge’s lineups often carry. Yet, he adds on another level to their lineup by being an example that being different and can get you farther for longer. When born in a small town in Italy, this man NEVER thought he would be playing to Millennials in a top NYC lounge just before he turned 80. Heck, the word Millennial did not even exist yet! Yet, LPR is a place of many Millennial tales, and Giorgio Moroder is a King of Disco Stories. For More Information On The LPR X Series Click Here.
