Concert Review: Giorgio Moroder Reincarnates Studio 54 At Schimanski
I am going to get sentimental. Seeing Giorgio Moroder live, at I Feel Love 40, is like seeing a vision of the best future you can have possible for yourself. Admittedly, it was hard for me to avoid that Giorgio is 77 years old. Yes, that is right! The original electronic DJ is nearing 80, and doing would tours to packed houses like, Schinmanski.
The reason that his age hit me was because it did not hit him. He was moving and shaking more than anyone around him. As cosmic visuals matched his trajectory as a producer for Donna Summer, Janet Jackson, and David Bowie, whom owe him for some of their biggest hits. That night, Schimanski blew away any rumors of “old vs young “ rivalries because It was a recognition that legends like Moroder breed other legends like Eli Escobar and Pillowtalk, whom opened for him. Sure, they may not have his same “style”, but Moroder was the first to introduce electronica as a style, in itself. It was as if Moroder was the house, and they were all the furniture; he built the place for them to stay in and be decorative. Thus, watching Moroder felt more than fun; it felt like a celebration.
There are certain people that to see them perform fills you with respect and hope. Watching Giorgio Moroder fills you with honor because you are seeing a man with a full and fulfilling life, which absolutely every person who danced before him most desires. Part of our anxiety and search for for parties of escapism like, I Feel Love 40, is because want to be Giorgio Moroder.
