Concert Review- Gon Turns Rockwood Into His Diagonal Fields

In a tiny red room, known as Rockwood, Gon introduced an album to a gathering of people that would all say they had just  heard beauty. Absorb that! I heard beauty. Yes, I have seen her millions of times, but Diagonal Fields makes beauty speak. With violins begins him, YOU KNOW HOW I FEEL ABOUT STRINGED INSTRUMENTS, Gon’s show could have easily been squeezed at a Carnegie Hall line-up, but, for 10 bucks, we got to see art.

I mention price because A) It always sucks when your favorite artist becomes too expensive for you to see (#RIPAnyOpportunityIHaveToSeeBrunoMars) and B) at times, we feel art and beauty is a hefty, inaccessible price. Yet, part of why Rockwood is a legendary locale is because of artists like Gon, who take their moment and make it feel splendid and luxurious even if there is a waitress walking around reminding everyone there is two drink minimum and a tip jar. In essence, we live in a society that makes beauty feel exclusive, but it is the artist’s duty and purpose to make it feel like it is right next to you: just one block away from the 99 cent pizza. Hence, people reveled in the gorgeous melodies and hooks and Gon’s perceptiveness and preciseness, along with the after-party at the 99 cent pizza place.
Gon – Alive [Official Music Video]

I have always liked artist’s that are clear they want to impress and want to be king of their music domain. Why lie and act like you don’t want to make an impact? Moreover, if you do not then music is not the place for you, but, for Gon, music has a purpose in making humanity feel like a creation. Gon was meticulous and measured in how he played his keys and annotated his voice like someone trying to convey to people that they are art. It is a beautiful idea; the dream that your life is this masterpiece being created and, in the end, it will be admired. Hence, there was a delicate elegance to Gon’s voice that I could only compare to a 19th century painting.

Yes, I know that is BEYOND retro; it is a historical vibe. While Gon was not going all “Rock Me, Amadeus,” he made me think of this era of Marie Antoinette luxury and colorful, stilled close-ups of people’s every-day life because that is what he aims to do. For More Information On Gon Click Here.
