Concert Review: James Vickery Is A Love Philosopher At Rough Trade
I remember discovering James Vickery through his Color Studios performance. I, literally, pressed play, and said, “Yup, I’m going to see him at Rough Trade.” It was the equivalent of an insta-like. His voice was more like James Hickory Smoke; lathering the meat of lyrics with enough fire to let their emotional juices drip. DAMN! Thus, I was so happy that his voice, live, was as good.
Some artists really do sound different when you see them live: some are better, some are worse, and some are just, genuinely, different. Admittedly Vickery’s music hits you different, when it is live. They still carry a weight of smooth, R&B frequencies: asking couples to love and asking those that want to be in a couple to also love themselves. Yet, James is so light-hearted as a personality, attracting an audience that is similarly cool-headed and eager to love, that his show feels more like a convention for people who are fans of relationships. There are persons that like having someone, and Vickery makes the music for those that have no shame saying, “I LOVE BEING SOMEONE’S BAE!”
James Vickery – Until Morning | A COLORS SHOW
Vickery is so friendly and giggly. He is like that waiter that comes up to the table to check on you a few times like, “Are you enjoying your meal?” Except this waiter cooked the food/ songs, and you cannot help but praise him. He is SO on market for the rise of Chill. Chill Pop! Chill Hip Hop! Chill R&B! Chill Polka Music! Well, the latter one is not so popular yet, but here is to hoping. Yet, he totally vibes with rising generations penchants for calm. We either want to go all A$AP Ferg/ Beast Coast and lose our minds at concerts or have an artist turn the tune dial down so that are feeling can go up. We desire both extremes, and James Vickery serves high notes and reverberating crescendos that make you need a fan from all that vocal heat.
James Vickery – Something Good | LIVE from London – Part 2 | Rivoli Ballroom
DAMN, HE CAN SING! I love an artist with a voice that impresses, and his new songs expand his vocality and lyricism. He is like a “love philosopher” that gets clearer, with each song, about how people interact when they are boo’d up or, at least, want to be. Thus, I am SO BANKING on Vickery’s career, and feel rest-assured that his first show in NYC will not be his last. For More Information On James Vickery Click Here.
