Concert Review: Joey Dosik Owns His Bliss At Baby’s All Right

Joey Dosik’s concert rises in favor for a VERY SIMPLE REASON: HIS VOICE! While we all say we go to see shows because of artists, not everyone goes to see a voice. Some artists rise in spectacle and entertainment, while others rise on the sheer desire to hear their specific, talented vocals. At Baby’s All Right, people were there to see Joey Dosik because he is a multi-instrumentalist and a man that sings for the bleeding hearts of this world.

I feel and I want to feel! DONE! Joey Dosik is the same way. He is undeniably aiming for the “joi de vivre” of life and music; creating an atmosphere and live sound that makes you feel like you are “Doo-Wopping” in 1950’s Brooklyn. Heat arose from the warmth of dancing, singing, and connecting to his music that made life better. It is not just that Joey Dosik’s concert makes you feel happier, it is that tracks like, “Game Winner,” “Take Mine,” and “Inside Voice” felt like lyrical guides on how to be open to love and joy in both receiving and giving to your partner. It is for this reason Dosik was TOTALLY OWNING HIS BLISS!

This may sound random, but as Joey Dosik constantly smiled, encouraged the audience to let loose, and poured his voice like milk unto the deliciously reviving, breakfast that is his newest album, Inside Voice, I kept on thinking of mythologist Joseph Campbell. He has an acclaimed quote: “If you do follow your bliss you put yourself on a kind of track that has been {waiting for you}….you begin to meet people who are in your field of bliss, and they open doors to you. I say, follow your bliss and don’t be afraid, and doors will open where you didn’t know they were going to be.” I bring this up because Dosik’s voice feels like this intuitive, beacon of light that we call a soul, and he encourages everyone to invite life in so that they can feel welcomed by it.

This may not seem like a fresh idea, but I ask, “How many times have you asked life to enter and guide you compared to how many times you asked why it left you abandoned?” For Dosik, we leave our life and our loves because we do not always see that they are constantly opening us to rewards we never dreamed. Thus, his modern, motown-esque sound is makes you witness what you can have and gain, i.e. your bliss. Hence, his concert ambiance had a sort of “speakeasy” vibe; people huddled together having a wildly good time that felt like a “crime” because it felt rare. You don’t often go to shows where everyone is laughing and swooning together as if they entered the show together to love together, but that is simply The Joey Dosik Effect.
