Concert Review: Kauf Makes A Cosmos At Baby’s All Right

“There is something there” is what I thought as Kauf performed his headlining show at Baby’s All Right. Yes, I know this is a basic thought, but it also is all-encompassing. Kauf’s music thrives in feeling like everything, while also being intangible. It flows like mist that you can envision but cannot touch, which made me feel like I was catching a show of someone who will be HUGE!.

Bon Iver, Father John Misty, and Arcade Fire are the few artists that came into mind when seeing Kauf. As lights bloomed through the air, his music reminded me of these fellow artists in their search to connect to the universe while also being perplexed/ bombarded by it. Tracks like, “Limestone”, “Pacify”, and “Key To Life” waved through the crowd like their beats were aerial acrobats; each dancing above us in a glamorous costume. While most of us feel torn between what we love most of a song, lyric or rhythm, I have to say Kauf uses rhythm exceptionally for his lyrics.

There are certain artists that are poets, and can write a Greek Tragedy over one, simple chord. Then, there are those like, Kauf, that prefer to keep their lyrics like concise, clean arrows targeting hearts, while their rhythms coarse the universe to build minds. In essence, Kauf makes sound feel like a trip, and transformed Baby’s All Right, which I call my beloved rectangle, into an open space. Suddenly, stars could appear indoors, and galaxies could dance with gals and gents because Kauf makes electronic music that makes cosmos.

There is a shamanic quality to Kauf’s presence that makes him a guaranteed success, and explains my previous comparisons. People love artists that are as explorative in their minds as they are in their music. We enjoy hearing the perceived wisdom of somebody who knows how to make their thoughts into sonic orchestras, while also making their voice feel luminous and effervescent like, Kauf’s. Hence, our fascinations probably come because we all feel our wisdom is too small and unworthy of being heard. Yet, add chords, drums, synths, and a base, and suddenly, Wisdom feels like it has a worthy pedestal. Kauf is building it a palace. For More Information on Kauf Click Here.
