Concert Review: Kylie Minogue Is A Country Superstar At Bowery Ballroom

Never in my life did I think I would see Kyle Minogue do a country-styled BeeGees cover, Islands In The Stream. Yet, life is known to be unpredictable, and Minogue’s album release show, at Bowery Ballroom, felt like a surprise gift to cap Pride Weekend. Even the guys in front of me were texting rainbows literally saying, “There is no better way to end Pride then with Kylie!”

Yes, I read other people’s texts, especially if they are taller than me. It seems right that I read their phone as they block my show (lol!). Yet, all serious jokes aside, Kylie’s show felt like a night at the Grand Ole Opry. The sweetheart sang from her country album, Golden, and was having the time of her life. With the capacity to fill arenas, it was nice to see Kylie in a smaller space and feel the warmth of her personality. She was giving “Color Me Barbara” glam, with a light-up K that gave the ambiance a feeling of tv spectacular. From talking about her dad to trying to find the “Roaming Steve McEwan,” her fans were happy see the person behind the icon.

In a most recent interview, Kylie talked about being happy to be a gay icon, which, by the way, not every artist is happy to see their fanbase be inclusive or dominated by the LGBTQ community. Thus, the night felt like one of love; a place where everybody could celebrate the giddiness of this emotion. While she did Golden songs like, “Shelby 68”, ”Radio On,” and “Raining Glitter,” people were LIVING for the dance tracks like “Love At First Sight” and “Your Disco Needs You.” One fan even demanded her to sing “Sexercize,” which made her giggle. Frankly, the whole night was of laughs because Kylie could do no wrong in this crowd.

As she melodically sang a few high notes without a mic, a man next to me said to his partner, “She is a literal angel!” All she did was sing three notes without a microphone, and she was deemed a celestial being. Let us be honest! Most of us try to pull that trick, and we would be called demonic (lol!). Yet, Kylie Minogue has achieved something we all wish we had: merited encouragement. She has earned her right to be adored, by loving all her fans through good music. For More Information On Kylie Minogue Click Here.
