Concert Review: Lights Is Positive Vibes At Brooklyn Steel

Do you ever have a moment when you truly or fully realize the obvious? When something that you have seen or heard so many times before becomes richer to you in details. Seeing Lights at Brooklyn Steel, the crowd’s cheers gained a new emphasis for me.

Sometimes, at concerts, you wonder whether everyone is cheering or dancing genuinely or for the same reasons. This can be an “in your head” moment, of which Lights pulls you away from such “over-analysis” to ask a deeper question. As we watch others to observe if they are being their authentic self, she asks if you are being your bravest self? Authenticity is great to have, but if you are not brave enough to be your truest self, at all times, and to fight for others to happily and safely be their most genuine…. your authenticity falls flat. Thus, it is no wonder Lights feels like the embodiment of her own comic-book hero; that is the moral core of superhumanity.

Lights lives up to her name by giving tracks that feel like candlelights being lit in a dark room. Hearing “Giants,” “Believe,” and “Moonshine” in a massive warehouse is, certainly, going to lead to empowering chills. You want to grab your cape, and join Lights as she “crime fights” those pesky, “Negative Nancys,” and fights for a world that no longer fights its universality.
She high-kicks/ belts her notes through “Running With Boys” and “New Fears” to become a superwoman of surprising range and sensitivity; emoting her empowerment through “Savage” and “We Were Here.” The petite, colorful songstress could take on anyone with her positivism, which is why she has more than fans; she has followers.

When we follow someone, it because we see them as radiant, and wish that we, too, could shine like them. Thus, as I heard the crowd cheer, in unison, to her words/ verses encouraging self-love, the importance struck me of how we make choices as a mass. Every concert is funded by fans who choose an artists that they believe speaks to them. When you choose Lights, it means that you not only want hear a voice of courage and kindness, you want to be it. For More Information On Lights Click Here.
