Concert Review: Pond/Fascinator Form A Psych-Rock Continuum At Warsaw

Pond and Fascinator have formed a tour ticket that is a MUST for those, like myself, who WILL NEVER fall out of love with psychedelic rock. I truly believe this music is a drug; to hear it will release your from your mind, body, and soul. Yet, if Pond is the music trip, then Fascinator are the hand that offers you the peyote.

Catching Fascinator’s set was like catching The Dude from The Big Lebowski. He paints himself as a tripped out shaman that could, easily, form a rock cult in the deserts of Oregon like, Wild Wild Country. Yet, his set was a perfect set up to show the wide range of presentations that come with psych- rock. Like Fascinator, some go for its “spiritual” image; giving melodies and lyrics that push your mind beyond its limitation of “understanding”, while also having no qualms being silly and self- deprecating. These two qualities made Fascinator charming, and upped his “Verve-esque” vocals. Yet, the show was for and all about Pond.
Fascinator – Sex Crystals

I am 100% sure that Pond made a LOT of money off merch last night. You know that you are a popular band, when people feel like to wear your name is to build an exclusively cool community. Their 70’s style T’s aligned as the band played from their last album The Weather. Yet, this record comes to life on stage because Nick Allbrook is like a David Bowie meets Andy Warhol concoction. He embodies the colorfulness, literal glitter, and imagination of these personas with his presence. While the group always aligns straight across the stage, with Allbrook standing off center, you could put that man in the back of a hidden, glove compartment and, somehow, he will become the center of the universe.
Pond – Fire In The Water

As I said, Fascinator shows the spirit of psych-rock, but Pond shows the glam. Tracks like, “30,000 Megatons”, “Paint Me Silver”, and “Edge of The World Pt 1 & 2” had me sparkling like Sailor Moon. I am trying to amp Allbrook as a frontman, who like Bowie, has a sensual, androgynous vocality that drips lyrics like candle-wax on skin, and, when he approaches the crowd, the candle nearly combusts. Yet, altogether, Pond have become Kings of Psych-Rock because it is not easy to draw someone to stay in their minds and turn it into a space of vision and vivacity.
Pond – Paint Me Silver

Most of us are trying to avoid our headspace because we have a bag of anxieties waiting to be lugged, but Pond create soundscapes that twist and writhe as if music is the key to every dimension we have never seen. From Heaven to Hell, Allbrook’s voice and Pond’s melodies transform you into a drop of rain falling upon oceans of thoughts. For More Information On Pond Click Here  And Fascinator Click Here.
