Concert Review: Powers Give Me Power To HAVE FUN At Webster Hall

Powers is not kidding about its name. The duo LIT UP Webster Hall with an energy that matched the ever changing colors of their name in lights. Yes, the acclaimed song-writing duo of Mike Del Rio and Crista Ru, who have worked separately with the likes of Rihanna, The Knocks, Jay-Z, Icona Pop, X Ambassadors, etc, have united to give their skills to themselves, and provide a night that is SO POP it might as well be chewable like bubblegum.
POWERS – Dance

Dance

From electric bass-lines that feel like pink trampolines you can rhythmically jump from to sweet vocals that bring the child-like annotations that classic “poppers” like Gwen Stefani or Cyndi Lauper play, Powers provides everything we love about Pop music. From the minute they enter the stage, the kick-drum begins and Mike Del Rio enters like fire. He claps, stands at the edge of the stage to connect with the audience, and, basically, declares that if tonight is a circus; HE IS THE RING LEADER.!His energy is level 10, and matches well with the drive of Crista Ru whose vocals and guitar-play shine brighter and brighter as the shows goes on. By the end of the night, she comes off like a sparkler that has been on lit and left on the stage. Her fiery red hair only added to your inability to keep your eyes off her because you wanted to know who is that “fire -redhead” dominating the guitar, literally kicking air like a ninja, and adding sugary vocals to each song. FromHot” to “Heavy , you wanted to jump in and do a sing and dance with Del Rio and Ru because they both create music, obviously, made for the radio.

POWERS – Man On The Moon (Visualizer)

Man On The Moon

Powers spark an aura of invincibility and freshness that you gain when you are driving with friends, and “that song” comes on that everybody knows the catchy lyrics and melody. As you all laugh, sing, dance, and dream, you realize that Powers are the ones providing that moment. Hence, their live show makes you feel alive and fun without any over-thought. Moreover, I love the chemistry between Ru and Del Rio. Despite different vocal registers, when they come together for a harmony you might as well have been given a sonic candy-bag. Thus, for a night of pure, singable magic and fun, I recommend you get some POWERS. For More Information On Powers Click Here.
