Concert Review: Rebecca Haviland Shows Time Makes You Go Inward

As Rebecca Haviland transitioned from old tracks to new ones, it, suddenly, hit me how many artists, in time, because self-reflective. Rebecca is FAR from the first artist I have ever interviewed that uses their person to inspire music. From ideas to experiences, nearly every artist takes from their life to breathe into a song. Yet, at Berlin NYC, I saw that life makes you go inward with time.

From “Bourbon” to “Hideaway” or rather from old to unreleased, Rebecca’s music has gone from starting the party to wondering the meaning of “fun.” Call it maturity or getting older, but there comes a moment in your life when having a “good time” simplifies and enriches in significance. You go from wanting to down a shot at 3AM at a whiskey bar to watching the stars with your lover of 3 years. In essence, you start to become more still and inward, and I loved that such growth could be heard in Rebecca’s music. It was very “Bruce Springsteen” of her.

Part of why The Boss is so famous is because you hear a song of his and know, exactly, when and where in his life he wrote it. Rebecca Haviland has that same quality; with each year of her life feeling capsulated by her music. The perk is that she is such a kind, strong person. Her energy oozes a firmness that says, “People have tried to tear me apart, but my roots were to deep to be to be torn.” In essence, she is grounded, funny, and appears to be as strong and as open as her new works promote her to be. She has no airs to her, which makes her perfect for Americana.

Vocally, Rebecca is impressive. The way she controls and throws her voice like a lasso makes sure you are caught. She is so purposeful with her delivery, but comes off rambunctious and free. In essence, the audience feels her passion is spontaneous, but fellow artists will know it always takes work and ideas to give a song your all. Thus, her new message of looking inward to see how you live outward is fully embodied and a sign that time really does make you wiser. For More Information On Rebecca Haviland Click Here.
