Concert Review: Sylvan Esso Bring Fire Are An Electro Spa-Day At Brooklyn Steel

Yes, YES, YEEEESSSSS!!! That is my review of Sylvan Esso, and thank you for reading it (lol!). What can be said about a good time? It is like when you go on vacation, and come back to your friends truly believing that your spa day is as riveting as a Marvel film. Sylvan Esso gives you a spiritual spa-day; where there music massages your mind into relaxation so that your your soul can drift into an electro-dream.
Sylvan Esso – Die Young [OFFICIAL]

Playing some old and a lot of new tracks, the night was a celebration of big music. Electronica is made to make you feel like synth-waves are coursing through your veins rather than blood. It is a genre that aims to make you feel like your flesh and blood can be turned into lasers and star-beams. Thus, Sylvan Esso was the perfect duo to transfer the sold-out Brooklyn Steel crowd into the purpose of electronica. While I reviewed their newest album, What Now, and marveled at its inspiration from political depth and social thoughtfulness, but, at the end of the day, those nuances are lost in concert. Still, that is NOT a bad thing. On the contrary, it is nice and expected to hear an album and receive one side of the artist that beautifully contrasts their “concert side”. Thus, songs like, “Kick Jump Twist”, “Die Young”, “H.S.K.T”, and “Radio”came off  for their pure motivation to make you move. Lead singer Amelia Randall Meath is part Zumba/ part belly-dancing queen. She is the type of person that you see dancing the whole night in party and inviting everyone to join her, of which you do because joy is infectious. As she swings her body around and manages to keep a perfectly sugared pitch like her vocal chords were a candied-note dispenser that never breaks.  I grew impressed by her vocal, physical, and spiritual stamina because, for all her movement, she did not break a sweat. Although she did not speak much, the few times she did,  Amelia was really funny. She was open to humorously quipping on songs’ Tinder inspiration or her excitement at having a manicure despite being a nail-biter. Her sparkling wit balanced with the kindness of beat-maker,Nicholas Sanborn, whom expressed his North Carolina pride and thankfulness that we all were there.
Sylvan Esso – Radio (Music Video)

Seeing Sylvan Esso as a duo that loves each other makes you love them more. Based on my sheer desire to dance through my life with good people, I would see their concert again and again. Not only were they amazingly vibrant and ready to move, but they had attracted a crowd that measured up to their wants for fun. People waved their hands and stirred their hips to every electro-rhythm and catchy hook as if they were happily hypnotized. What more could you ask for in a fun night out?
