Concert Review: The Accidentals Are The Comic-Con of Musicians At Mercury Lounge

Here is why I love The Accidentals, and it might be for a weird reasons; they are nerds. Going to their concert is like going to the Comic-Con for musicians. Instruments, of all kinds, are splashed across the stage, of which they switch up the same way a cos-player alternates between costumes and trinkets. To change guitars for violins is the change identities, and The Accidentals, for being a trio, have a trillion talents/ identities. Thus, if you are a nerd. like myself, that appreciates friendly smarts and a giant, museum-like display of how many instruments are in this world, The Accidentals are for you.

I love talent, which is a plain statement to say for a reviewer. I should love talent because its what I review! Yet, The Accidentals are the type of “talents” that remind humanity it can be so much more than how it acts or behaves. Their talents is the product of prodigious proportion: with each leaving their teen years with enough credentials, accolades, and music classes to start their own University of Music. Thus, in terms of music, they were destined to “kill it” better than most bands. Its not that others are lagging in creativity or musicianship, but this trio had instruments with their baby food, which is why they were tenfold in exuberance and willingness to have a riff-off. Katie Larson, Savannah Buist, and Michael Dause were determined to give a good show but also display what their lives have seemingly been destined for: to headline a concert. Songs like, “Odyssey” , “The SIlence”, and “Memorial Day” captured an on-going theme in The Accidentals music: life is always moving. They go beyond lyrics that zone in on love’s ups and down to present life as the core source of your balanced instability. From “Epitaphs” To ”KW”, The Accidentals presented themselves as the youngest “old people”; with enough wisdom and laughs to say they lived for over thousand years, and can advise anyone that the whole meaning life is written, solely, by your hands. It may not be as Godly or ghastly a meaning as much as a personal one; which gives you more power and play than perceived. Hence, my “nerd” comment comes from my appreciation of any wise band that, literally, makes a violin look like its barbecuing itself from some many keys, and then tosses a few literary, personal, and artistic references for the audience’s pleasure. Well-cultured  and well-played makes them well-like by me.
The Accidentals – Odyssey

As usual, I walked out of another concert regretting my life choices, and wondering why I stopped taking violin lesson after 5 classed. If only I had a time-machine, I would go back, take every lesson, and become the fourth member of The Accidentals because they are more than just musicians; they are family. Moreover, they give the warmest, robust energy I have seen in a long time, which is why I wanted to pick up an instrument and join in on the cool, effervescent harmonies between Katie and Savannah. Both have voices that match their instrumentalism: pure ease. For More Information On The Accidentals Click Here.
