Concert Review: Vaeda Black Is A STAR!!!!!!!!!!!
What constitute a star? For one, I believe it is determination; someone that is settled enough in who they are to be who they want to be. Hence, Vaeda Black is a star because, at 17, she is walking fire in how emboldened she is to be a performer. At Rockwood, the crowd felt like they were watching a star be born before anyone saw its brightness.
If you hear “Suicide Love” then you KNOW there is an x-factor to Vaeda’s style; a special quality that is too rich to be described because its greatness should only be felt. Of course, knowing that she is 17, I felt taken aback by how solid she was in her star-power. There is no apparent nervousness, indecisiveness, or falsity in her desire to perform, which placed the audience in an instant awe. You can TELL Vaeda lives and thrives in the mere honor of being on stage, which is why she moves like it is her destiny and leaves you shocked that anyone can be so firmly sure of their purpose.
Vocally, Vaeda is pristine with her notes, and jazzes them through tracks such as, “Clouds,” “Perfectly Wrong,” and “Temporary Boy.” She treats her vocal range like a flute; lightly blowing notes until they become aerially potent. You can practically breathe in her vocals with how clearly she emotes and plays with them. It is as if she sees a song like clay, and she must mold each one to the night. Yet, never again, will she sculpt the same figure. What makes Vaeda so unique is that get you know each of her performances are different because she is so present in her song.
As she dropped to her knees and contorted her body as if music had crumpled her like paper, I could only think, “Wow! She is this young and owns her talent.” While she is sweet with the crowd and talks to us with a shy amiability; once that melody begins, her confidence is cosmic. Moreover, her sound feels like a blend between Amy Winehouse’s “Frank” era and Billie Eilish. From “Face Down” to “Cold-Hearted,” she captures a starry, fresh pop flare and swirls it with verses of heartbreak and confusion over why it is so hard to shine the light you carry for relationships or yourself. Obviously, this dilemma stays in her lyrics because, in real life, she is unbelievably bright. Fore More Information On Vaeda Black Click Here.
