Concert Review: Weyes Blood Is GETTING POWERFUL At Webster Hall
Woah!!!!!!! I am having a Khalid moment. Weyes Blood has become so massive, and I cannot believe that just a few years ago I saw her as an opener’s opener. Even then, I knew she was magical. Able to capture the weirdness of being and transform it into beauty. Sometimes, our own skin can feel alien; draped with emotional scales and freckled doubts. At Webster Hall, Weyes Blood was the Joan Baez/ Joni Mitchell of our generation, and I felt proud.
Joan, Joni, or from Janis Ian to Janis Joplin, Weyes Blood felt like a revival of the female folk-rockstar of yesteryear. The ladies that were as influential as Bob Dylan or Leonard Cohen in defining the power of song-writing, never quite get the mentions. Similarly to them, Weyes Blood’s music opens your soul like a journal entry. Titanic Rising is an epically good album that feels quietly cinematic. Tracks like, “Something To Believe, ” “A Lot’s Gonna Change,” and “Do You Need My Love” felt cosmically chorded like, stars brightened between her guitar strings. More importantly, they gave you a vision of a woman making mistakes, observations, and hopes for her everyday life.

UGHHHHHHHH!! I AM GAGGED! Weyes Blood is so good, but, know this, I am reader. I know that sounds like a funny comment. The reason I like Weyes Blood is because I read, but, in a way, I feel their connection. Like the artists I mentioned before, the attraction of everyone to Weyes Blood came from her narrative style and nymph-like, wistful voice. She breathes in details like a book, and you want to read every sequel until Harriet Potter finally defeats Lady Voldemort. HA! Wearing her now, signature, white suit, Weyes Blood gave a sermonic performance, and it felt befitting, considering, a lot of the people who came to see her did so for comfort.

There is nothing more comforting then when you are alone and you find a person in the room that “gets you.” You laugh at each other’s jokes, get excited that you both watch the same shows, and share the same outlooks on humanity. That is how her audience saw her like, the person they found in their room whom understood them. For More Information On Weyes Blood Click Here.
