Concert Review: Zuli Tear Up Rockwood With Water Bottles And Guitars

I cannot say that I have ever been to a concert where a lead singer grabbed a water bottle and used it to play his guitar, but it was immediately felt that Zuli is a show for surprise and stress relief. Lead singer, Zuli, kept on licking his lips, hovering over his guitar, and sensually muttering the word f**k as he played his guitar every second quicker. This man is in love with music body and soul, which made the results of his show one to watch.

First, let me elaborate that Rockwood stages are not known for their spaciousness, and Zuli was playing an early act in one of their smallest ones. I say this because every person walking into his show was felt in presence, which meant that Zuli had to work overtime to make sure all eyes were on him. A man with a weird gulp could have easily drawn attention away with how packed the space was; with even the drummer incapable of being on stage. Yet, I mention this because when Zuli is in a room; you are not. It is all about him and how plays he his guitar and voice to the point that you think you are about to witness the first man to self-combust. I am not kidding! I thought his fingers would burn off with his self-demand to play quicker and with more force. He churns tunes as if they were heating up on high in the oven of his mind. Hence, the level of passion he brings is dynamic. Again, you KNOW this man loves his music, but it is in a way of self-healing. Songs like, “Blaze”, “Kubadiver”, and “Alfonso Muskedender” played like the end of the world was near, and Zuli was going to face it with music. How he captures the finite and finality of things is, for lack of a better word, epic. You simply feel emotions and sonics coming out of his every pore, and it made me humbled to see that no matter what size the stage its the bigness of an artist’s presence that gives it life.

Zuli’s debut, On Human Freakout Mountain, will come out on October 20, and I am so excited for him. There is absolutely NO WAY that he will not grow in following and potential accolades. Every single person in that crowd was bobbing their head as if the air was filled with invisible apples. It was clear that they were feeling Zuli’s music for its loud, surfing rock. Each melody felt like a tsunami of which only Zuli’s guitar was the surfboard and his voice the safety link between. With vocals that simply say, “F YOU WORLD! I’m living for me!”, I expect to see him headlining the biggest venues sooner than later. For More Information On Zuli Click Here.
