Concert Review:JOHNNYSWIM Give Back In Talent And Charity

I have never been to a concert where the artists knew so many names and told warm stories about the crowd. This personal touch is just the start of Johnnyswim’s charisma. The ease at which they spoke to audience members was endearing and made everyone feel like they had gone to their favorite couple’s house. Yes, Johnnyswim is a married couple of talent, which can be felt throughout the show. They do not deny their love but exalt it with loving looks, words, and a sweetness that makes you proud of them because they give an excellent show. It is as if you are partying with your “best -friend couple”, whom give you the adult wisdom you need but still have the “college fun” humor you enjoy. They are caring, funny, and give any song a sexy, romantic feel.

What makes Johnnyswim a powerhouse of talent is that they are a bit of many music genres. Solano has an “R&B” type voice that echoes the beauty and rasp of Lauryn Hill. While Ramirez could be confused for Bruno Mars’ vocal twin sharing the same “doo-wop” flare and capacity for a great riff. Together they harmonize as if it was their voices that fell in love with each other. Their image has a pop sensibility, their lyrics a “folk-like” depth, and their music, styles are the perfect blend of country blues and rock n’ roll. Thus, they are marketable and attractive across the board. Plus, the stories they share about their rise to stardom and their personal love is a welcomed addition to the layers of their songs. When they sing about love, like in their songs Adelina and Take The World, they have a felt passion and intimacy that spreads to touch every audience member’s hearts. Suddenly, love is tangible and a worthy strength.

There is no doubt that Johnnyswim is talented, but, again, what elevates them is that they are incredibly kind and uniquely likeable. For example they travel with the non-profit Feed America, a charitable act that other artists, for all their fame and money, do not even consider. Their generous spirits are shown as they sing and dance with a joy of two young people in love, which triples their songs’ meaning and potency. Live While We’re Young and Diamonds are beacons of positivity that will make your spirit feel like a conqueror. Moreover, watching them sing it with their whole heart makes you believe every word, like you are “the fire of the sun”. In addition, they are some of the best cover artists I’ve seen.

Before a show, Johnnyswim kindly asks audience members  to place their requests for songs they would like to hear them sing. This gave them the opportunity to turn Adele’s When We Were Young into a brokenly pleading and remorseful track that longed for its past youth, while Drake’s Hotline Bling became a sultry duet of two lovers yearning for their old, sexy days. To take some of the biggest singles of today and alter them into your own cool versions is a major feat that Johnnyswim does with a casual grace. In addition, when a heckler decided to perform their own unwarranted “comedy show” as they were beautifully singing Elvis Presley’s Can’t Help Falling In Love, they handled it with humor and happiness. Hecklers can throw off any seasoned performer and add tension to the room. Thus, it was amazing to see them smile it off and request the audience to join in and sing with them loud and proud to drown out that heckler. Hence, if you want a show where you are appreciated as a fan, I highly recommend Johnnyswim.
