Diandra Interviews Dinner: Doing The Dream Work

I REALLY like Anders Rhedin’s answers, in part, because his new album Dream Work, out October 22, under the artist name of Dinner serves you the meat and potatoes of self-actualization. Yes, if Tik Tok is crazy bringing up videos of wannabe life-coaches, artists actually give us the coaching we need in life. In Dream Work, Anders embraces that “bettering yourself” is a constant quest, in part, because the minute you get to that “better you” it is as if a red alarm goes off to the universe, and a new situation arises to make you test, meditate, and contemplate whether even your newfound self-discoveries are something to explore. In our interview, we discuss how Redin went through his own DREAM WORK!

Diandra: How would you describe Dream Work versus Shadow Work?

Anders: Ha! I think dream work is automatically shadow work because you tend to work with unexplored sides of your soul.

Diandra: You recorded the album in Copenhagen – describe what Copenhagen gave ininspiration within 3 words:

Anders: Looking into darkness

Diandra: What did you learn in these past few years about yourself that inspired you to return to Dinner?

Anders: That I can’t predict what wants to express itself through me. On the other side of the veil there was some energy (or entity?) and it wanted to come into this world and now it’s the new Dinner album.

Diandra: What is your dream dinner? If you could eat something with Music incarnate, what meal would you have with her?

Anders: Let’s fast for 2 days and just stare into each other’s eyes instead. Either that or go to Dino’s Famous Chicken in LA. I haven’t been in LA for almost 3 years and I really miss it. And Dino’s.

Diandra: The album is all about reflection. What is a new reflection you have about the world and the meaning of music, today, that you did not have when you first started?

Anders: That music is magic because you talk with spirits and bring them into our world, or you talk to aspects of your own soul, I don’t know, that might be the same thing. And in doing this ritual you change yourself. And… the world as a result.

Diandra: What is one Egyptian Myth you think would create a perfect concept album and why?

Anders: I don’t know – probably Horus’ birth? Because that has something in common with the Jesus-myth – which seems to be pretty popular.

Diandra; Inspired by Japanese ambient… what are the visuals that come to your mind when you think of this inspiration?

Anders: Honestly, the artwork from Haruomi Hosono’s cassette for Muji from 1984. It just looks so beautiful.

Diandra: What is your favorite childhood memory with music?

Anders: The musical “Annie”. Great stuff.

Diandra: If you could describe the duality of each song with two words, what would it be?

Anders: 1) ”Midnight In My Head (Ft. Charlie Hilton)”

Light / Darkness

2) ”How We Talk”

Fluid / Static

3) ”Big Empty Sky (Ft. Lina Tullgren)”

Inside / Outside

4) ”Like You Said (Ft. Charlie Hilton)”

Start / Stop

5) ”Anima”

Giving / Receiving

6) ”Connection (Ft. Molly Burch)”

Being stuck / Moving

7) ”Spirit Voices”

Foam / Cement

8) ”Grateful (Best Shit)”

Water / Drought

9) ”Born Again”

Death / Birth

10) ”Drøm”

Dreaming / Awake
