Concert Review: Hippie Sabotage Are Righteous At Brooklyn Steel

I begin my Hippie Sabotage review with a story. Waltzing through the Brooklyn Steel lounge, I looked to see a woman in her 50’s, rocking a Hippie Sabotage crop-top. She then turns to her son, who is probably over 18 but looks 12, and is wearing a man-bum with a skeletal mask that lights up. She says, “We are not going to go too wild tonight, okay? Because we have church tomorrow.” The son replies, “Okaaayy, Mom!”

If those were the type of people Hippie Sabotage was attracting to their tour then I was ready to become a permanent Hippie. In what fabulous universe can “man-bunned” children hang out with their crop-topping, AARP moms? A HIPPIE SABOTAGE CONCERT! The moment defined my night, and, in many ways, defined the trippy nature of their show. Their aim to create a tour reflective of The Path of Righteousness displayed that this road is unpredictable.

Like in any EDM concert, people go to lose their minds. This is not a location for you to cry in an “insecurity pillow” nor is it one for a person on their third pace-maker. People go to get lit, but Hippie Sabotage is rather smart. They want to exhilarate you, but they also want take charge over your night. They meticulously plan their show like a peyote induced ride; where each song and visual are perfectly placed before you like a hallucination. It is as if you have taken a spiritual journey, and, on it, you will confront remixed versions of every memory that gave you joy. Moreover, you will have a guide: Kevin Saurer.

As Jeff stood behind sparking the electricity of tracks, “The Mist”, “OM”, Righteous,  and, of course, “Stay High”, Kevin came to the crowd to assure you were staying high on your trip. He was like a shaman assuring his followers did not lose their spirit. Yet, Jeff came forward in “Waiting Too Long” to show that if his brother ignite the crowd, he soothers them. Overall, Hippie Sabotage earned a crowd eager to relive Woodstock days they, probably, were not alive for, and ready to have melodies and SPECTACULAR visuals drip over them like body paint drying in whatever image your skin absorbs.

It was easy to feel like Brooklyn Steel was in another planet, and to walk outside would find you trying to get uber on one of Saturn’s rings. Yet, there was something so delicious about that idea/ experience; as if you could taste your memory with how vivid it felt. There are not too many moments in your life, where you are so impressed that every single one of your senses is activated. Yet, I believe I stand with “Crop-Top Mom” in saying Hippie Sabotage gave you a show to see, smell, hear, touch, and taste. For More Information On Hippie Sabotage Click Here.
