Concert Review: INHEAVEN Give Goth Glam Grunge At Bowery

It is kind of strange to see a British band play to the idea of wasted, American Youth. There with their North Londoner accents, and a sullied, American flag hanging with the darkest of red roses, I kept on getting a “Teen Spirit” vibe from INHEAVEN. These artists believe in the strength of visuality in their sound, and, at Bowery Ballroom, it worked in their favor.

With a white, misty light shining on them, INHEAVEN appeared like the rock n’ roll antidote to youthful angst. They waltzed the line between glamor and grunge to give one of their first NYC crowds a sonic taste of their spiritual gripes; we are diamonds dug into dirt. In other words, though young, hard-working citizens, our dreams of personal grandiosity or global peace feel dashed, which can make working hard seem wasteful. “Drift”, “Wasted My Life on Rock N’ Roll”, and “Treats”, INHEAVEN introduced their music as “go-to” punk-pop glittered with melodies and morbidness.
INHEAVEN – Stupid Things (Official Video)

Led by James Taylor, INHEAVEN made a powerful introduction to the NYC music scene. They were precise in music and vision, particularly, in terms of Taylor’s voice. When Taylor sings he bends his head back as if he were being exorcised for his voice, which makes the flowers and frustration of his lyrics explode forward. Sharing vocals with Chloe Little, her voice smacks like pillow; its hardest punch still leaves a benevolent mark. This is a perfect dynamic considering both leads understand that the “songs of now” or rather, our times, reflect the lines of visual excess and spiritual poverty people feel.
INHEAVEN – Baby’s Alright

From “Velvet” to “Regeneration”, INHEAVEN display how much we see but cannot absorb. From knowledge to hard work, we are given a lot to do and witness, but not enough to feel and transfer into empowerment and victory. Their ability to show much is not always best derives through music that makes feel much about not being at your best. For More Information On INHEAVEN CLICK HERE.
