Artists of 2020- An Interviews With Juke Ross: Chasing Hearts Through Songs
In a world where more people have endless access to and of artists, musicians need to stand out, not simply for their talent, but their message: whether it is to get lit or feel lighter. Juke Ross, definitely, has the “lighter” message; offering a sound the feels as fresh as roses. Seriously, to hear his songs makes you like a bouquet of flower: fresh and natural. Hence, in our interview, Juke Ross discusses the cartoons that taught him love and the lesson he learned from the relationships that turned into heartbreak
Diandra: You have said, “We deal with the struggle of chasing our hearts.” What are your heart’s desires and how do you find happiness in the chase?
Juke Ross: The heart is the heart and it desires what it desires. It’s a continuous struggle to keep the heart, mind and soul connected. But, whenever I manage to do that, it is when I maintain some semblance of that thing called happiness.
Juke Ross – Burned By The Love (Lyric Video)
Diandra: Your music sings to juggling the many roles you have in life. What are the three most important roles you have in your life and why?
Juke Ross; Son, Friend, and Artist. Son: because I feel my parents have had the most impact on my character and personality. Friend: because there’s nobody that understands us as well as a good friend and helps us through tough times. Artist: because in times when I’ve secluded myself to make sense of it all, there’s a voice from within that helps me to make sense of it all and helps me to heal.
Diandra: Your music also sings to giving your heart to relationships. Describe a relationship that taught you how you fall in and out of love.
Juke Ross: Mmm… Sebastian the crab in The Little Mermaid. Such a happy, lonesome guy but a real friend. In him, I see that happiness is first important alone. Then, based on the people and energy around you, happiness can increase or decrease. Plus he sings, the best calypso, Caribbean music!

Diandra: Many of your tracks discuss the difficulty of letting go of the past, especially in relationships. How has time and love taught you to stay present?
Juke Ross: Time heals everything. I guess only when I start looking ahead too much do I risk the chance of disappointment. If you can relate to what I’m saying, or have had any experience with it, you know that you naturally start to accept yourself in the present. I’ve found that reality is not as bad as it seems, or that the dream is not as great as you might think! But I’m a dreamer; so there’s always a dream out there.
Diandra: What has been the most difficult thing you have ever had to leave in the past?
Juke Ross: My parents and my family. I talk about my heart often in my writing, but it took years to build up the courage to do so.
Diandra: In honor of your song, “Fresh Roses,” who are the people in your life that most make you feel loved and clear to love?
Juke Ross: Family, friends and fans!
Juke Ross – We Never Die (Audio)
Diandra: How would you describe how you want to be loved?
Juke Ross: That’s still unfolding, but, right now, what comes to mind is that I want to be loved patiently and passionately.
Diandra: With your EP being called Grey, what other colors would you use to describe your music and style and why?
Juke Ross: Blue. For a very long time I’ve navigated life alone, perhaps by my own fault or nature but the more I learn, the less blue it becomes. Still, Blue is better than Grey!
