Diandra Interviews Mia Giovana: It Is All About The Small Details

I really like Mia Giovina. She is a young woman that is clear-headed and open-hearted; aiming to enjoy her talent and whatever it creates, and hopeful that it leads to a successful career. You may think that is the intention of every artist, but not necessarily. Some aim for fame, others aim to become inspirations, and a few are trying to use their musical gifts to escape poverty or dark areas in their life. Yet, for this 19 year old Tik Tok star, making a song is an act of appreciation for your life, and, in our interview, she discusses what exactly she appreciates.

Diandra: What is a book, tv show, or film you feel would be a great concept album and why?

Mia: My favorite movie in the entire world is Dirty Dancing! With that being said, if I could write an entire album strictly based on that movie, I would be happy. I think the strongest element in that movie is just passion and that’s exactly what you need to write a song.

Diandra: Which character do you most admire or relate to in it and what theme would their song be?

Mia: I think I relate to Baby, the main character. In the beginning of the film, she’s so unsure of herself, but, by the end, she’s confident and free. I’ve been going through this exact battle throughout my entire life; trying to please others and never really stepping outside of the box. But now, I’m making my way out of the box and I’ve never felt more like myself. Going with that theme, Baby’s song would definitely have to be something along the lines of breaking free.

Diandra: What is your favorite childhood memory with music?

Mia: I can remember being super young, I had to be about 6 or 7 years old, and taking my dad’s iPod shuffle to listen to music. I putt on a Maroon 5 song and just danced my heart out around my basement. I didn’t care who heard me or who saw me, all I could think about was how much I loved music.

Diandra: What about music brings out your truest self? What is the truth it reveals to you about you?

Mia: Honestly, I think music brings out a lot of my insecurities but in a beautiful way. Whether I’m listening to a song or writing a song, I can be reminded that I’m not perfect, but that I’m still me and I’m still worth it.

Diandra: When you think about your life, what has music consistently healed and supported within you?

Mia: As cheesy as it sounds, music has always been my home. It has never failed to remind me I’m not alone. I’ve never been a fan of school and I can remember in middle school, sitting in class when a song I loved came on and I immediately felt at ease. Even smaller things like going to the grocery store and hearing a One Direction song playing over the loud speaker remind me that music is constantly around me. It’s really comforting to know that.

Diandra: What are three things you love in people and 3 things they should love about you?

Mia: This is the cutest question! I love it so much. I love when people talk about things they’re excited about or are really passionate about. I love hearing people laugh really hard and I love when people remember little details. I would hope people would love my kindness, my spirit, and my mind.

Diandra: Singing to self-acceptance and body positivity, what have you learned to accept about yourself?

Mia: I think the thing that has helped me the most is the idea that literally nobody is perfect. When you catch yourself wishing to be more like a model or have voice like another artist or have the life of some celebrity etc. just remind yourself that somebody else could be doing the same for you. We all want what we don’t have so when you sit back and remind yourself of all of the amazing things you do have, life becomes much clearer.

Diandra: Seeing yourself as the heroine in your own life, what is a hero you would compare yourself to or admire? What is a strength you share?

Mia: Not to be insanely cheesy but the only hero I can think of is music. I admire the ability it has to make people feel less alone and I hope that I also do that for others.

Diandra: If you could write a theme song to your life, what would be about?

Mia: The theme song to my life would have to, in some way, incorporate the appreciation of little things. I think I was always so worried about the big picture of life but when I take a second to appreciate a beautiful sunset, a car ride with my best friend, or waking up to the the sun shining in my room, I’m reminded of how beautiful life can be.

Diandra:What about your personality comes out in your music? What does it say about your perspective on life?

Mia: I’d like to think that my music makes people feel seen and heard. I love when I get comments saying my rewrite perfectly described a situation someone is going through at the time. I’d say that circles back to my personality. I try to be the kind of person who keeps eye contact with someone telling a story in a big group when nobody else is listening.

Diandra: What has Tik Tok taught you about self-promotion and how people want to be connected, especially with you?

Mia: What I’ve noticed about tiktok, is that people just want authenticity. If you’re truly proud of and passionate about the content you’re creating, that will translate to your audience!

Diandra: What 4 random facts about yourself that you say, “You have to know this, to know Mia?”

Mia: My favorite movies are Dirty Dancing and IT. When I like a movie or tv show, I have to watch it on repeat, at least 3 times through. I was a belieber, and I almost always hid in the bathroom during gym glass.

Diandra: If music could incarnate and physicalize into your best friend. How would you spend your day with her and what would you do to thank her for everything?

Mia: First of all, I would just like to say how much I appreciate the creativity of all of these questions. If music was incarnated into my best friend I would honestly just want to go on a really long car ride with her. We would sing every song I’ve ever heard, dance, laugh, and just talk about absolutely everything and then end the day with watching the sun set.
