Concert Review: Luis Fonsi Sings To Love In Despacito At King’s Theatre

I’ll be frank. I have been feeling sentimental or rather sensitive with the tragedy currently happening in my Puerto Rico, which made me moved to see Luis Fonsi. With banderas abound and a crowd filled with Latinos from all around the world, Fonsi was cheered throughout his two hour extravaganza. This Boricua may have one of the biggest singles of all time, “Despacito”, but he also had the heart of every single person at King’s Theatre.
Luis Fonsi – Despacito ft. Daddy Yankee

Admittedly, I had no idea what to expect from Fonsi’s show. I knew I would hear “Despacito”, and was hopeful to hear one of the most romantic songs ever written, “Nada Es Para Siempre”, but as a performer I was going blind. Would it be a two- hour, moody session of his thoughtful voice over sullen strings on living a love-lorn life? Welp, though the show had such great moments, it was incredibly more dynamic. From dancers perusing the stage in either Hip Hop formation or tango celebrations, and Luis Fonsi’s own body/ booty shakes splashed across tracks, I was shocked by how much energy the cool-headed singer has. Every track such as, “Imaginate Sin Ti”, “Gritar”, y “Por Una Mujer”, was an opportunity for Fonsi to swim into the depths of his emotions like an Oscar-winning actor. He was bringing songs from his entire catalogue, and performing them with a freshness that made you believe he wrote them yesterday. For having so many classics, Fonsi treated all of his songs with a newness that made you fall in love with them again. Moreover, they showed that Fonsi is truly a romantic. He is not kidding when he writes “¿Quién te dijo eso?” and “Llueve Por Dentro” declares his demand to love and be loved in return, which he was last night! From an eager fan that leaped on the stage to give him a hug to another one that yelled out “Eres Mio!” (Translation: You are mine!), Fonsi was ready for the ladies and their proud joy at saying “I love you” to him face to face. He even yelled back, “No, you are mine!” to the screaming fan, with giggles and applause following from the audience. It was clear that not only did everyone love Luis Fonsi; they actually liked him.
Luis Fonsi – No Me Doy Por Vencido

Fonsi’s heart seeped from every song. He closes his eyes, and goes into an “I’m The King of The World” stance as if he is reveling in the fact that he is a successful singer of love. When he spoke of Puerto Rico, it was with honor and humility; completely realizing how lucky he is to tour the world, but avid on telling the world of his native home and its current need, of which “No Me Doy Por Vencido” was dedicated. Still. the dancing was non-stop, with him singing Despacito TWICE! From “Tanto Para Nada” to a Melody of Top 40 hits ,people were entering aisles to instagram and choreograph a full-on salsa, of which Fonsi was enamored with their own dedication to him. He is so sparklingly aware of his fan-base and the power of his music to move love, which is why I cannot reiterate. enough how worthy a show Luis Fonsi is as a performer and a stunning vocalist. He can hold a note from here to the moonlight sky, which he displayed behind him as he sang. Thus, do yourself favor, and experience Luis Fonsi live by Clicking Here. Do not worry if you do not know Spanish because he does, and displayed a few future tracks that will, certainly, dominate the English radio, very soon, when his new album comes out in the beginning of next year.
