Concert Review: Morgxn Enlivens The Hopeful Romantic At MHOW

I do not know what was in the Music Hall of Williamsburg air, but Morgxn brought out his inner Sam Smith/ Adele. Now comparing artists is not something I like to do because not everybody feels honored by “comparisons”. In a world that loves “distinction” and “special”, comparing seems to cut that off. Yet, after listening to The Thrill of It All, Smith’s penchant for pain and higher notes resonated in my head, and felt fulfilled by Morgxn’s mutual style and musical plight: Can love please love him back?

I have reviewed Morgxn three times! He is right up there with Lawrence as artists I review/ stalk too much (lol!). Yet, when you know good, you know it! Simple! Hence, goodness is ageless, but it does grow. Morgxn’s growth as an infallibly good artist has been a unique one. There are certain stars that have talent and an undeniable spark, i.e. X-Factor. Yet, in perspective, what is the significance of the Big Bang if a universe was not born from it? I make this point because Morgxn’s MHOW show was the most “star” I have ever seen him. In Baby’s All Right, I saw him for the first time, and thought him open and sweetly eager to entertain. In Bowery, I thought him more confident and gaining a wider grasp on how to draw bigger crowds into the broken, intimacy of his tracks. By MHOW, he owned both aspects of himself to become a personable master of the stage. There was a surge of comfort and confidence in him that made me teary. My “boy” was feeling good and at home, even if tracks like “Home”, “Bruised”, and “Hardest Pill To Swallow” were about feeling like everything else but warm and fuzzy, i.e. my Sam Smith/ Adele reference.

The perk of Morgxn as an artist is that he is a gorgeous voice that sings to loneliness of lust and love. It is safe to say that most of us are hopeless romantics that dream of finding the “one” that makes us feel a little more complete. It is also safe to say that most us have gone through a few “ones” and ended up feeling more incomplete. Morgxn sings to that latter, but with a soulfully, high register that makes you want to turn on some candles, draw a bubble bath, read a romance novel, and learn to dream of your Prince Charming again. The irony is that his voice enlivens you as his lyrics are about the moments that made you feel too dark to live. Such a contrast made him seem like a fabulously, electro-singing troubadour journeying through concert halls to find the hopeful romantics in the crowd. For More Information On Morgxn Click Here.
