Concert Review: corook has me shook

I love a good performer. I love someone that is so brilliantly self-aware that they become hyper-aware of you; yet, not in nervousness but in guidance. Sometimes, I think the difference between someone that becomes a guru and just another friend that gives you good advice is that the former realizes, when it comes to wisdom, everyone is your friend. Everyone has needs, wants, and even if we differ in what they are, we do not change in our relationships with them. Through detailed lyricism and REALLY GOOD humor, corook shines as an artist to watch. PERIOD!

Yes, I would see corook again, and I cannot say that about every artist. What makes her distinguishable is that she is the most confident person to be insecure. Her words sing to the constant choice to go for what you want even if you are not who you want to be. That little twist boosts her as someone to both admire and enjoy because, in some ways, that is positivity. There is a strange belief that positivity and denialism are on in the same when, in truth, they are constantly opposed. corook knew people were coming to see K.Flay, that is not always easy to please her girlfriend, and coming from a rich family means you BETTER be successful. These are all the lyrics you will find in corook’s songs such as, “opening act,” “IDK GOD,” and “bad friend.” All songs about being flawed but still wanting to give and receive.

One of the biggest differences between confidence and insecurity is that the latter stops you from going for things while the other helps you see, “why not?” The ease from which she joked and uplifted the crowd was so refreshing that even though she said, “no one knew her music,” it was hard not to see every song as a hit on the radio. In essence, she embodied something the industry loves to say, but does not, necessarily, always believe; you can really sell your music by being you. Sometimes, you do not need hair, makeup, and a swag coach. Personality can be the best seller, and in the age of “influencers” that seems evident. From Billie Eilish or even the rising Tai Verdes, each one made their online presence feel authentic, and made sure their stage one remained genuine to it. Corook feels genuine and I want to keep watching.
