Song Review: Father John Misty Gives Us “Total Entertainment Forever”
I always get precocious writing about Father John Misty…. Is he an act? A Person? Both? The point is he is talented, and with a new video laced with symbols and underhanded social commentary, Misty shows no sign of clearing the line between person/persona. Why bother? If it gives people “Total Entertainment Forever”.
Father John Misty – “Total Entertainment Forever” [Official Music Video]
MaCauley Culkin as Kurt Cobain getting crucified with a part- wolverine Bill Clinton? Seeing an old, 18th century sea captain melt from playing virtual reality? Seeing Father John Misty have a baby- alien of Ronald McDonald burst of his stomach? Well, that last part sounds like what happens to me after a Big Mac, but the point is all these details are apart of Father John Misty’s new video for Total Entertainment Forever. Clearly aimed to prod at the precious and pre- cautious themes/ symbols we use in society to exemplify humanity, Father John Misty continues his crusade to question why we use them. Lyrically, he is one of the best song-writers, because of the humor and curiosity he uses to analyze both humanity and inhumanity. In Pure Comedy, like his previous albums, he exuberantly adds another notch self-awareness, self-loathing, and self-love, while describing the most powerful, enigmatic force we all have: life.
