Song Review: K.I.D.’s New Song Is For All The Givers That Fell For A “Taker”
Sometimes, the hardest part about a break-up is the loss of your investment more than the actual love. When you look back on a relationship, and saw how much time, effort, and heart you put in to making it both lovely and lasting; it is enough for you to feel like you HAVE to stay. Yet, sometimes, we fall for a “Taker” as K.I.D points out, and takers absorb generosity but do not reciprocate it.
K.I.D – Taker
K.I.D. has, literally, made a punk-pop anthem for, seemingly, my love life. I fall hard for “takers” and, like lead singer Kara, I work hard for transcendental love. Thus, as she lists everything she did for her lover/taker, from driving him around to buying his drugs, she makes her voice, intriguingly, both seductive and exhausted. She has smoky vocals that when conjoined with the frenetic drum and guitar backdrop, makes her appear like a phantasm ready to speak on her woeful life or, rather, relationship. So many listeners will both bop and nod their head at the intoxicating melody and embarrassingly true lyrics. We all have given a lot of ourselves to someone who did not deserve it, and, in some ways, those relationships teach us more when they end rather than when they are.
“Taker” is a phenomenal, catchy song because it is poignant. You have to look back on your relationship and ask why you gave so much to someone that not only gave nothing to you, but left you feeling empty. Why we do this to ourselves, I do not know, but I get the feeling that we usually give to others what we either wish was given to us or should give ourselves. Thus, enjoy K.I.D’s “Taker” as a casual, pop raucous dedicated, in essence, to the many givers who fell for a “taker”. For More Information On K.I.D. Click Here.
