Album Review: Kllo Asks “Maybe We Could”
Kllo’s Maybe We Could lives in the space of that question… Maybe we could? We have all wondered about someone, in terms of love; thinking of how “we” could become an “us” with that person. It is a thought that can be sweet, seductive, and, in the case of Kllo’s record, out July 17, a new opportunity for reinvention. While Kllo have always played with the world of electronica, Maybe We Could pushes them into genres like Hip Hop and R&B. The result is a new sound that brings their electro dreams into dancing, rhythmic territory.
Hip Hop and Reggaeton are the most powerful genres in the world! POINT! BLANK! PERIOD! Meanwhile, R&B, in its many iterations, has become a staple for sonic seduction. In Maybe We Could, Kllo blend these genres’ power and purpose to observe the relationship limbo that comes just before you define or even start a relationship. Tracks like, “1 Up,” “Insomnia,” and “Maybe We Could” feel like the glances and “hmm” we ponder as the spark of romantic interest begins within us.

Adding these new genres to their electronic style allows the nuance of Kllo’s versed intentions to sound cool and appear fresh.Chloe Kaul’s glossy, steady vocals glazes through basslines that are heavier and synths that zip through a little bit quicker. From pace to melody, songs such as, “Just Checking In” and “My Gemini” Simon Lam’s enter more of a house vibe that, still, makes listeners want to dance to the potential and lush of crushing. Overall, Maybe We Could amplifies Kllo’s ability to make listeners imagine the space and storylines of their songs.
