Album Review: Lucius Want You To Love Your “Nudes”

When you think the word “nudes”, it seems dirty. The beauty of nudity, both figuratively and literally, has been tainted by a conception that our bodies are something to hide; as if doing helps reveal more our souls. The problem is that humanity has a had time bearing its skin, and Lucius sing to getting emotionally naked in Nudes.

Oprah once said, “We are spiritual beings taking a physical journey!” I kept on thinking of this quote as I heard tracks like, “Feels Like A Curse”, “Woman”, and “Tempest”. Lucius have created an album that makes me wonder if the reason we hide our bodies is because we feel our souls our hidden. This is a rather deep thought that reflects how we manifest our surroundings according to our inner workings, which is why “look-a-like”, soul sisters Jess Wolfe and Holly Laessig went acoustic for Nudes.

The sleek, elaborate songstresses have stripped back their instrumentals to forward both their acoustic melodies and righteous message. Songs such as “Eventually” (Tame Impala Cover) or “Until We Get There” and “Something About You” lyrically observe how vulnerability pushes us to hide and confuse lack of daring for “patiently waiting”. If there is one thing you need to be happy, good, or in love, it is boldness. Thus, it is strangely ironic but befitting that a duo known for their highly visual and evocative artistry have decided to peel back their “luscious” aesthetics for a richer exposure.

When Jess Wolfe and Holly Laessig sing their voices unite like a group of chimes; letting the wind of their acoustics drift them through greened, picturesque harmonies. More then ever, Lucius is appealing to the inner beauty that is their art. In simplifying their sound, they redefine their own “visuality”, and sonically say the greatest vision you can have of yourself is completely bare. No covers, cloths, or skins can drape over the raw allure of being utterly open in who you are, and not worrying whether others will love you because that is a guarantee. As Lucius witness/ sing in Nudes, the only reason we do not let ourselves go bare is because we doubt WE will like our own body/ soul. Yet, Nudes show the more you expose of yourself, the more you grow to love yourself. For More Information On Lucius And To Buy Nudes On March 2 Click Here.
