Album Review: Ruby Force Guides You Up Into An “Evolutionary Road”
“OOoOoOOoOOOOOoOOoO” is the sound I made when I heard Ruby Force’s alternative country debut, Evolutionary War. This country starlet is soooooo right for this genre and her name. Like a force, she shows evolving as a strong woman can feel like a war, but like a ruby, you have the worth to win.
Evolutionary War is so good I cannot even go beyond basic sentences and words to laud this debut. First, Ruby’s voice feels like spotlights shining on a garden. She matches the flowery, earthiness love with the twinkling synths and glamor that is music. In essence, music is a glamorous entity, and her instrumentals dance as if the Angel of Music was chorusing with her throughout “Why Do You Leave” and “Tender”. When Ruby Force is singing to love, you almost feel like Love, itself, is sitting beside you saying, “Yup. That’s Me!”. Love, though the basis of nearly EVERY SONG, is not always easy or balanced in capture. It can be both malicious and magical, which leaves some artists feeling either too bitter or too sweet in representing this human emotion. Yet, Ruby Force is fearless. “Plain As Paper” and “Damn Your Love” treat ex-lovers like old-newspaper she has tossed for their irrelevance. FIERCE! Meanwhile, “Cowboy” and “Diamonds” shows the whimsical nature of LOVE! Ugh, romance is a beautiful thing that, everyone, show give themselves permission to sap over like honey, which Ruby Force’s vocals DO! Her voice is meek but powerful like a goddess bowing to humanity’s ability to do “right”. While Ruby Force has no qualms confronting and telling her man to hit the door, when sings to love opening it, my heart melts.
Evolutionary War is an excellent country album. While Ruby describes herself as alternative country, there is a purity to her sound that is inevitable. She splashes, infuses, and pivots to other genres like folk, rock, and pop, but none every surpass the country flare of her music. Each song could, easily, be blasted in a Texan jukebox as lovers dance together to this classic feeling. For More Information On Ruby Force And To Buy Evolutionary War On June 23 Click Here.
