Artist Close-Up: As Chet Faker Exits, Nich Murphy Enters In “Missing Link”

You may know Chet Faker, but have you met Nick Murphy? Releasing Missing Link, Murphy completely sides his Chet Faker persona to show Nick Murphy is a soulful, rock n’ roll crooner with the potential of LEGENDARY status. If Missing Link is Murphy’s introduction, then I AM welcoming.

In five tracks Missing Link feels like The Black Keys decided to make a human being/ artist with Radiohead, and they produced Nick Murphy. This EP is deliciously fun and reckless. It blazes in tracks, “Weak Education” and “I’m Ready” to serve listeners a raucous, party vibe. Now, Murphy is not the first nor last artist to go for the crazy, rebel vibe, but having so many years of success as Chet Faker gives Murphy a slight edge. He knows how to give listeners what they want even when he is giving a new side to himself. Although he does not lose his electronica elements as heard in “Your Time (feat. Kaytranada)”, “Bye”, and ” Forget About Me”, he adds more of drawl/ lax riotousness to his voice; as if he is willing to light the night-sky on fire and feel unbothered  at seeing stars burn. There is something both dangerous and inviting to his new direction that, of course, listeners will love. Who does not like to raise the volume on music that panders to our invincibility complexes; something, lyrically, Murphy approaches. How he will last in love and in life is a prominent theme in this album, and it seems a befitting challenge for his new, artistic journey.  Changing who you are known as into who you want to be seen as will NEVER be easy, especially when who you were has been so loved. Still, Missing Link is a testament that, to feel fulfilled with your life,  you have treat yourself like an island of dreams; there is always a vision waiting to be discovered.  For More Information On Nick Murphy Click Here.
