Artist Close-Up: Milk & Bone Are Virtually Haunting

Listening to Milk & Bone is like being lost in a sexy video game. Their love songs ooze with a virtual sexiness that can leave anyone in an evocative mood. They are a synth-pop duo from Montreal proving that Canada can be sexy, too.

New York

When you hear Camille Poliquin & Laurence Lafond-Beaulne lull and coo over the electric background, it is as if two sirens have been summoned. Their breathy, high ranging voices make them appear either hauntingly beautiful in their darker songs or like two innocents bringing the bubblegum pop to music. No matter what, their sound is aerial and makes you want to dance like, most electric pop. Yet, what differs them from the rest is that, unlike most synth-pop bands, they don’t sound like they are from the 80’s. They sound like they are from the future, which gives them a unique edge.

Coconut Water

Their debut album, Little Mourning, sounds like it came from the future with lyrics that are timeless. Their song New York is a smokey take on the woes of love, which because it has a futuristic edge makes it feel like someone has traveled back in time to say, “Love never stops being complicated!”. While Coconut Water is perfect mixture of easy listening music and virtual pop.  The unusual mind trick is endearing and comes, in part, because of their forward, electric sound.
