Artist Close-Up: Tom Odell Is Smooth Soul With Electric Sound
To say I love Tom Odell’s voice might be an understatement. His vocals do not sing songs…. they tear them apart with their ability to evoke the mutual desperation and love we all feel to be heard. He taps into the nagging thought and sentiment each person carries to make their voice clear and powerful. Hence, his newest track Here I Am, is electrifying in it simple, yet universal message: HERE I AM WORLD!

Wrong Crowd, his 2016 album, received critical acclaim for bringing in a soulfully, wrecked sound. The whole record feels like it was written by a man torn apart by life, but still standing in defiance, resilience, and hope. Thus, its songs lend themselves to be the soundtrack to every moment a person has said. “Sorry World! But, you are going to have to accept and respect me as I am”. Just writing that last statement made me say, “Hallelujah1”, which is also another term I can use to evoke the golden threshold that is Odell’s voice. Ugh! GOD HE CAN SING!
