Artist Close-Up: Vevo DSCVR Continues To Select The Future of Music

It is kind of crazy that one platform has the power to define what you will be listening to in the future. While we look to Spotify as a potential new record label, Vevo DSCVR feels like an mportant testing ground to see the appeal of your artists as a performer. In stripping down all gimmicks, to bring forth their acoustics and personality, Vevo DSCVR is a good analysis to see what artist you want to see. Here are some of my fave VEVO DSCVR’s of recent.

Donna Missal:
Donna Missal – “Keep Lying” (Live) | Vevo DSCVR

Everyone knows I love this woman, and if you want to call me bias, I will not fight it. After seeing her live, I appreciated VEVO DSCVR’s videos even more because it captured her raucous energy. This woman could make a hurricane out of half a cup of water. She thrashes and rasps her vocals like a whip; eager to leave a burning mark on your heart’s skin. After all, love pretty much does the same.

Duckwrth:
Duckwrth – Fall Back (Live) | Vevo DSCVR

There is no denying Duckwrth is going to be big, especially because he combines the revolutionary energy of Hip Hop with the riled rages of punk rock. His verses whirl and destroy like an aiming tornado; as if he knows where to place a storm. His Vevo DSCVR was one of my favorites because it displays a new wave in Hip Hop that is further drawing on Punk dynamics.

bülow:
bülow – Honor Roll (Live) | Vevo DSCVR

bülow is a highlight in Vevo DSCVR because, like Duckwrth, she represents the fusions of different genres to display the vulnerabilities of being a “different person.” While this high-school student, in Amsterdam, is still perusing hallways and trying to remember her locker combination, she is also writing verses on what it is to be a girl. Our journey is not just about whether we love boys or they love us. It is also about how we love ourselves in a world that raises to love men without analyzing how they love us. Moreover, her video is a prime example that VEVO aims to amp an artists’ energy; creating a cool, neon room where they can toss their personality like paint.

Buddy:
Buddy – ‘Young’ (Live) | Vevo DSCVR

What I love about Buddy’s Vevo DSCVR is how stylistically chill it is, which is, exactly, how Buddy is as a rapper. You do not call yourself Buddy if you are a diabolical enemy of the people (lol). Moreover, the simplicity of the video elaborates Buddy as a wordsmith trying to brew and breed calm insightfulness into his listeners.

Kara Marni:
Kara Marni – Love Just Ain’t Enough (Live) | Vevo DSCVR

Kara Marni’s voice feels like someone melted chocolate and gold, and decided to pour it over a soundscape; her vocals are deliciously rich. This is important because she is spearheading her career as a singer of love, but, then again, who is not. Like Donna Missal, Kara is riding on her voice to refreshen old ideas and heartbreaks on love, and it is working. When you can hit notes as if cupid, himself, gave you his arrows for target practice …. you are going to be a-okay in this music industry, and her VEVO DSCVR video shows that. Moreover, I LOVE how Vevo decides the colors for each artist’s essence; picking blue for this lovelorn songstress.
