Concert Review: Charlotte Adigéry Is A Show To See
I KNEW Charlotte Adigéry would be funkadelic. MY SOUL TOLD ME that her show would be one to move, and the packed NUBLU crowd knew it, as well. I am surprised there weren’t dance auditions before her show because, honestly, the groove was felt.
One of my fave songs and videos of Charlotte is “High Lights,” and, seeing her live, proved why. It embodies her colorfulness and command of her audience as if she is spiritually starting a conga line. I don’t know if you have ever been the one in the party to start the conga line or yell its time to do garden jenga, but convincing people to feel so ageless they act like a kid is a task: even if they pay for the ticket. Yet, the key to Charlotte being such a vivacious performer comes in that fact that she presents fun as a serious, music venture.

She grabs the mic and hovers over her audience as if she is Eminem in the 8 mile road about to spit fire at enemies that called her less, which by all means she does. She also takes that energy of about-facing to negativity, and shows that simply fighting off all the reasons in your head for you not to smile is the equivalent to fighting off all the people that want to assure you don’t. In essence, whether it is yourself or another, an enemy is an enemy, and you have to confront both to get to your joy. Thus, I couldn’t help but feel like that Nublu was also a stunt episode of Pose with how everyone was voguing and getting hypnotized by the equally dancing lights.

When an artist makes you feel like your real self is your happiest self then they are a treasure and Charlotte does! She makes her concert feel like a surreal space; as if nothing matters beyond that moment your moment: Whether singing or flowing in verse, her voice is smoothly colorful: popping lyrics like balloons filled with emotional confetti.
