Concert Review: Jenn Grant Gets Maternal At Rockwood
When you have a baby your life changes; the question is whether it is still yours. You have this new, major role, motherhood, but is it all encompassing? Can’t it be defining without being your full definition? Every woman goes through this gripe, and as Jenn sang onstage, with her baby in tow and stories in song, the Rockwood audience fell in love with her.
As baby Gus cried like he did not know he was in a concert, Jenn said bring him up here. She carried the baby boy and her notes with equal precision and loveliness. Why? Because no one knows how to multi-task more than a mother. Yet, the question is who are you now that you have to raise someone else? Playing off her new record, Love, Inevitable, Jenn was open that many of her songs were in observance of her parents and her past in contrast to the desire and potential of giving new life. She wanted her kid, and now she has him and still wants other things like, to tour.
Vocally, Grant is so ethereal, which is why her wit stands out. She can sing songs that make her voice float like petals on a warm bath, and then joke about tuning her guitar. She is so funny, friendly, and open to the hiccups and nostalgia that spark within an artist. Such sentiments are natural and moving of art because the work of a songwriter is to observe life through music. Thus, from stories to songs, Grant felt like a sweet outlook on how life is an ebb and flow between the times you are satisfied and the others times you feel fulfilled. With baby in hand, Grant certainly made her audience feel full with good music and a unique memory. For More Information On Jenn Grant Click Here.
