Concert Review: Matoma Invites You To CampSuperdope

At Terminal 5, Matoma’s Camp Superdope lived up to its name. People were flying through and climbing on friends to dance like they were escaping Jurassic Park to enter Disney World, and, frankly, I was living for it. Matoma’s mixes have swept through the club scene for its ability to make you feel as soft as a teddy bear while busting moves like you were a back up dancer for Megan Thee Stallion.

When you observe the nightlife of New York, ambiance is vital. New York is VERY MUCH about its clubbing scene, but part of the competition between the many nightclubs and dance nights are their “role-playing” dynamic. From a gamers’ set design to colors and confetti, it was hard not to feel like we were at an actual campground with Matoma as the Head Counselor and Two Friends as his assistants. Two Friends, once again, delivered in giving a set that was so exuberantly and unabashedly happy. Who else could remix the theme song to Toy Story or throw in some Neil Diamond to a batch of Gen Z’ers. WHO?! Yet, the night was still for Matoma.
Ally Brooke & Matoma – Higher

It has been a few years since I saw and interviewed Matoma, and I have to say that he feels more comfortable than ever in his spins and style. His set was a complete breeze; performing like a doctor that has performed so many surgeries he can truly cut with his eyes closed. To his crowd, he was a god; delivering them a night of harmless debauchery that they were salivating for. Not one person was on their own that night, and I cannot say that I saw too many people that were not, at least, with two friends (pun not intended). It was as if Matoma’s show was for the people who want to dance with their buddies or the boo they have; not ones seeking to have either.
Matoma – All Around The World (feat. Bryn Christopher) [Official Lyric Video]

Trust me when I tell you there is a difference between a club night for hook-ups and a club-night for plain fun, of which Matoma’s Camp Superdope was the latter. It was all about dancing and acting like life was a birthday party you never left. Honestly, all we needed was some cupcakes and balloon party favors, and this night could have been qualified as a full-on celebration. For More Information On Matoma Click Here.
