Concert Review: Russo Show Romance Kills At Knitting Factory

Russo have to be one of the coolest bands rising. Led by Cailin Russo, the giggly songstress took the crowd aback with her capacity to be goofy and cool, all at once. Though we, usually, feel our coolest when laughing, silliness is always downgraded. Yet, in music and presence, Russo showed Knitting Factory that the only way to lighten your life is to lighten your mind.

Wearing a glittered shirt that said, “Romance Kills” and having a “Daenerys Targaryen” braid, Cailin was stylistically chic. She looked like a badass confronting love in front of everyone to say, “You really suck!” She brought an aura of casual ferocity that surprised when you saw how nonchalant she was as a person. Laughing with guitarist Tyler McCarthy, whom is a “show” of a personality, you realized these are “kids”; or rather young, twenty somethings figuring out life in a “House With A Pool:” also their album title.
Russo – Loudmouth

They younger you are, the more emotions are more what you are figuring than situations. It is as if “adulting” involves you forgetting feelings, and embracing that life is a matter of causes, effects, and the choices you make from them. DONE AND DONE! Yet, tracks like, “Loudmouth” “Ghost,” “Lonely,” and new track “No Time” felt like punk-pop challenges to such ideas. If growing up means only accepting the literal or logical of life, and not its spiritual or emotional, than count Russo out. Their melodies are like the bristles of brushes meant to sweep off any BS that promotes hearts going numb. For them, if you have to yell, jump, run, fall in love, play music, or whatever….. just do it! Be young; however crazy and poetical that may be.
Russo – Lonely (Official Music Video)

Russo’s Knitting Factory performance set up that they will be gaining more and more fans. Their bond as musicians and friends is infectious, and it draws in their audience to want to join in “the crew. Moreover, Cailin’s voice has the capacity to dribble, shoot, and score the sentiments of a lyric as if life is a game that asks you to be playful: not a player.
