Artist Close-Up: Biig Piig Is A Bilingual Kween

Okay! Hear me out! We have English songs! We have Spanish songs! What about SPANGLISH SONGS!!!!!!!!! WOAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It worked “Despacito,” and let’s be honest; we love singing to BTS and saying we know a little Korean because we can spit some of their lyrics. Their songs are not only good and fun to dance to, but they bring out our inner arrogance at being “cultured” and “educated.” Shucks! I think I’m fluent in French when I sing that verse in Lady Marmalade. Biig Piig is good and she makes me feel  open and bold with her music.

Sonically, Biig Piig feels like the essence of jazz; cool-headed beats ebbing and flowing to make you feel like a stroll around the block is a stroll around the world. Whether in English or Spanish, she sings to the mundaneness of live. The “everydayness” of relationships, goals, and dreams, which, yes, can be invigorating, but, sometimes, can feel like you carrying a bunch of luggage while looking for the check-in counter at a airport; when do you ship my baggage and get on a flight to somewhere different? Her ability to go from glamorous and dreamy to average girl slumping over untapped glamor and dreams makes her appear like a typical Aquarius; multiple personalities but all of them creative.

Born in Cork, Biig Piig is bound to become an international star, and join the ranks of European artists carving out a space in both American and Latin markets; a realization that both are formidable and necessary to become globally mainstream. It is an exciting time, in terms of international music, becoming equal and prominent in mainstream, which is why Africa’s rise in American music’s notice and new songstress Elaine should also be watched.
