Song Review : Early Hours’ Into The Wilderness Reminds You Of Young Love’s Honesty

Into The Wilderness is fresh, fun, and filled with a light-hearted sound. From its very beginning, the song makes you want to run through a sandy beach, which is ironic considering it is all about the woods. Yet, there is nothing dark or shadowy about this song as it is a simple pleasure to your ears.
Into The Wilderness is a promotion of being young and seductive in love. As lead singer Jake Bennett sings, “Oh honey don’t be boring”, he is smooth in his blunt petition to have a good time, “make a memory”, and have night of love that feels like eternity. The band uses the imagery of Heaven and the wilderness to drum up the basic desire of wanting to be with someone: no “fluff” or “drama”. I enjoyed the youthful honesty of the track and how its synthetic compositions feel grounded. Despite giving such lyrical fanaticism, you never lose the theme of young, passionate, and blissful love. Yet, that comes as no surprise considering the band is three 19 year olds.
The three 19-year-old musicians of Early Hours hail from Cape Town, South Africa. The band is made up of Jake Bennett (Vocals) born and bred in London, Adam Rothschild, (Guitar) and Benson Joubert (Bass). The musicians met in high school, and since forming in 2012 they have amassed a loyal worldwide following with vibrant music and energetic live shows. The band draws their influences from artists such as Two Door Cinema Club, Bombay Bicycle Club and Arctic Monkeys, blending them with the sounds and stories that inspire them from their life in South Africa to create a unique blend of Britpop and Afrorock. Moreover, they are the first South African band to get 1 million listens on soundcloud. Here is to a billion more!
