Song Review: H.E.R. Shows Remixes Can Be Better Than Originals With Rihanna’s “Yeah I Said It”

H.E.R. has remixed Rihanna’s “Yeah I Said It”, and I will boldly declare it is better than the original. Of Course, I say boldly because RiRi’s navy is fiercely protective, and I love Barbados songstress. Yet, H.E.R.’s remix adds a whole new, nuanced layers of sexiness to the already sultry track, along with elevating Rihanna’s own cooing/ yearning vocals.

When you want your man…. you want em! In H.E.R remix of “Yeah I Said It”, she harmonizes longingly with Rihanna’s voice to add to the ravenous, yet cool passion that is to desire your lover. By adding her own edge, even the beat feels heavier by the weight of lust. The dark, smoothly twisted bassline pulses like a person trying to hide their inhibitions under a dwindling glare. “Yeah, I Said It” does not hold back or hide under facades over both Rihanna’s and H.E.R’s craving for physical touch, and listeners will love it. Yet, do not miss an opportunity to learn more about H.E.R., as het last EP H.E.R. Vol 1 is one of the smoothest, enriching R&B records to come out in 2016.

The EP is stylistically like a rare, but easy shot of whisky. Yes, I know that “whisky analogies” are usually tied to country music reference, but, being the revolutionary that I am, I’ll use it for this R&B art piece.  I say whisky because there is  a hint of bitterness laced in her drinkable beats. Like R&B, H.E.R. delves right into the hardening heartache can cause unto one’s spirit. Yet, she does it with sweetly darkened vocals that, though soft to the ears, are also piercing to the soul. Love is not always kind, and with rhythms that echo the personal “heyday” of R&B, the 90’s, H.E.R. reminds us that you must not become unkind in reflection to its disappointment.
