Song Review: Hey Violet Basically Sings To Girls’ Dating Life In “Guys My Age”

On occasion, a song comes that is so relevant to your humanity and journey that you are shocked. Its details are poignant and potent to you situation. In Hey Violet’s case, the situation is dating for women. Rena Lovelis’s soothing, seductive voice becomes the one every woman has heard in her mind when she becomes discouraged, again, by the men her age. Guys My Age, even in the acoustic version, is an enrapturing track for both the pop-punk band Hey Violet and women whom are thinking older is better.

Guys My Age (Original Version)

It is no secret that dating is rough, but when you are a young woman trying to date your fellow youthful men it can feel like the biggest uphill climb. Women, are known to mature faster, but, at times, it feels like we need to look into the AARP club for suitable men. As Rena Lovelis coolly sings, how guys her age do not know how to treat her, hold her, and, altogether, keep her, you feel less alone in the discouraging love department. The original version has the punk- pop charm and sizzling bassline that elevates the mutual angst and “over this” sentiment that can envelop a woman ending her search amongst guys her age, and seeking ones whom are older, like her mental age. Yet, the acoustic version adds a stunningly somber twist to Hey Violet’s truthful lyrics. The guitar- based melody turns the initial dance version into one for you to sit-down, grab tub of ice-cream, and say “Yeah, dating can be really lame”. The contrast is both intriguing and says a lot about this up and coming band’s talent.

Guys My Age (Stripped)

//cdn.embedly.com/widgets/platform.jsIt is strange to see how one sentiment, frustration, can be made into either something to dance to or sit-down and self-pity. We all need moment of self-pity or, at least, an instant to acknowledge that it is okay to not be okay, especially if your love life is off. Love is the most important thing and whether Hey Violet is making you dance to its funkadelic drum and guitar arrangements in the “Guys My Age”(Raido Version) or giving your misery some nice company in the warmth of Lovelis’s milky voice in the acoustic version, the point is they make you feel like someone is one your side. Moreover, that someone is with you whether you want to dance your issues away or meditate on them for a bit. In addition, that someone is encouraging your love journey into older guys with good music! For more information on Hey Violet Click Here.
