Album Review: Haim Have “Something To Tell You” About Love, And You Want To Listen

Haim’s sophomore album, Something To Tell You, is pop glory with a crown of country. Guitars and keys clap and stomp throughout the record’as Haim sings to the pulls and pushes of love, which could have queens like bowing over. Whether they are harmonizing “Want you back” or mourning how a lover “Kept Me Crying”, Haim’s album becomes a radio-ode to female heartache.HAIM – Want You Back (Official Video)

Love is not easy for anybody, and, for women, it can be hard to be on the whims and wisps of men who have no idea what they want when they should realize its you. Being worth love and being worth a specific someone’s love are two different things. Often, when the person we we love does not love us back, we think we are unworthy of Love, itself. It is in this notion that Something To Tell You thrives as a record. The Haim sisters know how to make a catchy hook and an infectious rhythm, but they also know how to present themselves as ladies that can relate to every female’s relationship woes. “Something To Tell You”, “Nothings Wrong”, and “Found It In Silence” are electro infused testaments to the quiet feelings women keep inside to not “pester” their guy, but also to avoid the fact that they are a little bothered by him, as well. Often, we silence ourselves to not bother our partner, but when silence feels safer than having a voice, it usually means that you are not equal in power to running your relationship. Danielle Haim’s smoked voice is perfect to emanate the maturity and murkiness of this epiphany. From “Ready For You” to Right Now” her voice moves like a seducing phantasm; billowing in appearance to give you wisdom that only empowers with harmonies from Alana and Este Haim. Moreover, the sisters become your inner voice asking your lover for “Little Of Your Love”. Add a country-folk undercurrent into their arrangements, and Something To Tell You becomes an easy-listen album.
HAIM – Right Now (Live)

I SWEAR there is some country inspiration to their instrumentals that has me repeating this record. It might be that, compared to their dynamic debut, Something To Tell You is more stripped in its melodies and compositions. After all, HAIM already marked their presence in their debut, which explains why, for their second round, they decided to cool down the synths and mold their image/ sound to a barer feel, which makes sense when talking about love. Nothing makes you bare quite like it. For More More Information On Haim And To Buy Something To Tell You On July 7 Click Here.
