Album Review: Khruangbin Make You Feel “Como Todo El Mundo”

Khruangbin’s Como Todo El Mundo is beautiful. It is desert, latin rock perfection, which makes sense considering it is inspired by bassist Laura Lee’s Mexican roots. The album is an homage to the grandfather she adored, and feels like a starry ride with your pops.

We all have had had those family road-trips. We revel in the driven memories of us laughing, fighting, discussing, and sitting comfortably quiet amongst the people we love. Como Tode El Mundo is the soundtrack to such journeys. Guitars delicately spark as if they were stars being born, while the bass winds through like a tumbleweed spinning through sand. The drums come off like cactuses squeezing their little drops of water, while any synths or acoustics paint the back-drop, grained dunes we call a desert. Yet, this desert is in Mexico; where everyday feels sunny, and grandpa feels like a king amongst his culture.

Both vivacious, yet wholesome and warm like family, Khruangbin’s Como Todo El Mundo is easy-listening at its most gorgeous. At times, “easy-listening” can be diminished as something “plain”. Yet, I ask you not to have a vision as you hear tracks such as “Como Te Quiero”, “Come Me Quieres”, and “Maria Tambien”. You swim in their instrumentals like one does a lake; playfully swishing around while being cleaned by sonic nature. Laura Lee’s melodic low-end theory, Mark’s lyrical, free-role guitar lines, and DJ’s ever-steady, ever-ready backbeat form more than just an album; they form a memory.

Listening to Khruangbin’s Como Todo El Mundo is completely transportive. Thus, if you are bored, anxious, or eager to escape a bad day with a moment of beauty, pick up Como Todo El Mundo. After all, who would not prefer to be smile under the Mexican sun when times get hard. For More Information On Khruangbin And To Buy Como Todo El Mundo On January 26 Click Here.
