Concert Review: Homeshake Shows Warsaw The Link Between Love And Sex
I have seen Homeshake before, and am surprised to see the differences between his Warsaw show and Babys All Right. The intimate space of the latter was filled with ooo’s and aahh’s at the sensual sounds of Homeshake’s last Fresh Air. Thus, I was curious to see how sensuality spreads in bigger room.
There are artists that thrive in small, cozy spaces like Baby’s All Right, and those that feel to big even for MSG. Yet, Homeshake’s Warsaw show proved that he changes according to space or rather his music adapts its ambiance. Warsaw is triple Baby All Right’s size, which made songs such as, “Call Me Up” and “Getting Down Pt II (He’s Cooling Down)” amplify in their coolness. If at Baby’s they felt like whispers for physical touch at Warsaw they felt like call for sex. Homeshake approaches the union of two bodies and souls like a kid trying to investigate how candy is made; there is a joy, mischief, and fascination to see how the thing he loves manifests itself. Thus, he hits his high notes as if they were diamonds and whip-cream falling over his lover. I cannot say that too many artists remind listeners of the fun of sensuality. Yes, falling in love and giving yourself to someone is a “serious” choice with serious consequences, but it is done from a desire to be happy and wild, which we are not so often. Thus, in between tracks like, “Hello Welcome” and “Every Single Thing” he humored the audience like a “regular” guy aiming to add electric and funkier sounds to classic 90’s R&B in the same way sex and love add exploration and experimentation to our lives.
I always say a change of setting brings a change in reception. Homeshake may have been the same man with the same penchant for high notes that jump like galavants, but Warsaw allowed his sound and style to overcast viewers. What was once a chill vibe became a casting message that Homeshake knows about the seduction of passion, and how to make it like fresh air. For More Information On Homeshake Click Here.
